Lead Designer: Collectable Card Game
Koin Games is a group of 25+ year veteran game designers and developers and we’re looking for a lead game designer to join our team to help us with our next-generation Collectible Card Game designed with a FUN player experience first and foremost supercharged with true digital ownership. This role focuses on partnering with and supporting the Chief Product Officer, solving creative problems, helping establish and emphasize core design pillars, creating and maintaining highly detailed design documentation, reviewing game builds and working with partners to improve them, and creating content that will go directly to players.
Responsibilities
● Work closely with the Chief Product Officer to define and uphold the core design pillars of the game, ensuring these principles are reflected in all features and content.
● Create, maintain, and update comprehensive design documentation, including UX details, game systems, card mechanics, progression systems, and content pipelines.
● Review, refine, and iterate on game features, collaborating with designers, developers, artists, and other partners to improve the design and overall player experience.
● Oversee the creation of in-game content, including cards, metagame content, events, and mechanics, ensuring everything aligns with the established design pillars and overall game vision.
● Provide detailed feedback on game builds, feature implementations, and content updates to ensure high-quality execution. ● Engage with play tests and gather feedback to refine and improve game balance, progression, and player engagement.
● Ensure that all game systems and features contribute to an engaging, fun, and relentlessly push for the best and most highly-polished player experience.
● Work closely and effectively with the CPO, CTO and other key leads to determine project design specifications and ensure successful product execution.
● Utilize team feedback, data analysis, and user research feedback into clear actionable items to improve products and design processes.
Qualifications
● Minimum of 7+ years of experience as a lead game designer with a strong focus on designing collectible card games or similar genres.
● Proven track record in designing, documenting, and delivering high-quality game systems, mechanics, and content.
● A deep understanding of card game mechanics, player psychology, gameplay mechanics, and competitive balance combined with an ability to identify, analyze, and rectify game design and gameplay issues.
● An affinity for collectible card games on PC or mobile such as Hearthstone, Marvel Snap, Magic: The Gathering, and Legends of Runeterra.
● Excellent creative vision, verbal, written, & organizational skills that can be channeled & adapted to any type of game.
● Experience in maintaining and iterating on game design documentation throughout a game’s lifecycle.
Bonus Qualifications
● Experience designing mid-core titles with a PvP component
● Accomplished competitive background, having reached a high rank tier in competitive games
● In-depth knowledge of game theory and design best practices
● Experience working in Unity
● Knowledge of C# or equivalent scripting language
● Experience building games for both mobile and PC
● Working knowledge of standard industry game engines, design toolsets & production pipelines

The Legal Bits:
● In Compliance with local US law, we are disclosing compensation for this role. The range listed is just one component of Koin’s total compensation package, which may also include bonuses and LTI or other program specific awards. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for geographic differentials.
● We offer competitive pay based on market standards plus a significant bonus structure. The base salary for this role is between $90,000 to $144,000, depending on skills and experience. Individual compensation decisions are based on a number of factors, including experience level, skillset, and balancing internal equity relative to peers at the company. We expect the majority of the candidates who are offered roles at our company to fall throughout the range based on these factors.
● This role is full time, exempt and will be fully remote
● The ability to work on Pacific time is required
● Global, non-US candidates will be considered only on a contract basis
